The Kissing Gourami, also known as Helostoma temminckii, is a freshwater fish species that is native to Southeast Asia. It is known for its unique behavior of pressing its lips together and puckering, which appears as if it is kissing another fish. This behavior is actually a way for Kissing Gouramis to establish dominance or courtship behavior, and they do it with members of their own species as well as other fish. Kissing Gouramis have a distinctive elongated body shape with a large head and mouth. They can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm) in length and are generally a pale silver or pinkish color with some darker markings. They are omnivores and feed on a variety of small insects, crustaceans, and plant matter in the wild. In captivity, they can be fed a varied diet consisting of high-quality flakes or pellets, as well as live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or bloodworms.

Kissing Gouramis are generally peaceful and can be kept in community aquariums with other peaceful fish of similar size.
