Peacock Eel
The Peacock Eel, also known as the Peacock Spiny Eel or Leopard Spiny Eel, is a freshwater eel species native to Southeast Asia. Despite its name, it is not a true eel, but rather a member of the Mastacembelidae family, which includes other spiny eel species. Peacock Eels are known for their unique appearance, with a long and slender body that is covered in small, iridescent scales that shimmer in the light. They have a pointed snout and a pair of long, delicate whiskers that they use to navigate their surroundings. In the aquarium hobby, Peacock Eels are a popular choice due to their interesting appearance and peaceful temperament. They are relatively small, growing to about 10-12 inches (25-30 cm) in size, and are best kept in groups of at least three in aquariums with a minimum size of 55 gallons. They should also be provided with hiding places and plenty of plants or other decorations to explore and swim around.
