Borneo Sucker

Borneo sucker, also known as the hillstream loach or gastromyzon ctenocephalus, is a small, peaceful, and fascinating freshwater fish species that originates from the fast-moving streams of Southeast Asia, particularly in Borneo, Thailand, and Malaysia. They are part of the loach family, Balitoridae, and are admired for their unique appearance and behavior. These fish have a flattened body shape that allows them to cling to rocks and other surfaces in fast-moving water, where they use their sucker-like mouths to feed on algae and other small organisms. They have a brownish-grey coloration with a distinct pattern of black stripes and spots, which gives them excellent camouflage in their natural habitat.

In the aquarium, Borneo suckers require a well-oxygenated and well-filtered aquarium with plenty of water movement. A rocky aquascape with plenty of hiding places, such as caves and crevices, is ideal for them. These fish are peaceful and can be kept with other small, non-aggressive species. They are best kept in groups of 3-6 individuals, as they are social and enjoy the company of their own kind. As they are primarily algae-eaters, they should be supplemented with sinking algae wafers and other vegetable-based foods. Overall, Borneo suckers are an intriguing and attractive species that can be a unique addition to a well-maintained aquarium.
