The Delhezi bichir (Polypterus delhezi), also known as the Armored bichir or the Barred bichir, is a species of freshwater fish native to the Congo River Basin in Central Africa. Delhezi bichirs have a unique appearance with their elongated body, armored scales, and elongated snout. They can grow up to 40-50 cm (15-20 inches) in length and have a lifespan of around 10-15 years in captivity. In the wild, they prefer slow-moving rivers, swamps, and marshes with plenty of vegetation and hiding places, and they are known to burrow in the substrate to rest. In captivity, they require similar water conditions, and a well-decorated aquarium with plenty of hiding places such as caves, rocks, and driftwood is ideal for their well-being.

Delhezi bichirs are known to be solitary fish and may become territorial towards others of their own kind, so it is best to keep them in a single-species setup or with other large, peaceful fish species. Overall, Delhezi bichirs are a unique and interesting fish species that require specific water conditions and a varied diet to thrive in captivity. They are suitable for experienced aquarists who are looking for a larger, unique fish species to add to their collection.
